All righty then… So the starpod structure is something that I’m really familar with having lived in one on the playa a couple years in a row, and setting it up as a shade structure at a few full-moon gatherings. The one we’re working on now, however is, how shall we say it… a beast. A behemouth. A farking heavy son-of-a. And that’s just the frame I’m talking about. Seven+ foot two-by-fours sure ain’t 5 1/2 foot one-by-twos, that’s for dang sure. Good old Pythagoras has come through with "a squared plus b squared equals c squared" a few times when determining dimensions of roof & wall panels, so anyone who ever thought "when am I ever gonna use this stuff" in a junior high math class, I just say "well here you go." I shudder to think what it’s going to be like putting this thing up when it has 3/4" plywood + skylights screwed to the roof. Good thing RafaelO and Sasha and perhaps if we’re convincing enough Bitta and a few others will be with us on the playa when we need to erect (huh-huh) this monster.
Our poor neighbor couldn’t help but notice what we’re up to - sorta in "Wilson" style from Home Improvement. It must look pretty odd to the outside world to have this huge frame all of a sudden pop up in a neighbors’ back yard - accompanied by the ridiculously annoying sound of power-saws running through plywood in the middle of the day. I just hope we’re not keeping his two year old from his naps.
We picked up our drive-through window today. Hooray Craigslist! We had to spend $8 in gas but saved $40 from what we’d have spent @ home depot. We’re still looking for a brilliant way to light the menu without having to run a generator, as well as power the intercom. Anyone have any solar panels + batteries they’re not using?
